Sheppey United can confirm the return of midfielder Josh Chambers to the club.
Born on 13 November 2003, Chambers began his development within the Gillingham youth academy. His progress there was notable, as he became the fifth-youngest player ever named to the clubβs first-team squad.
He went on to make his professional debut in EFL League One against Doncaster Rovers in March 2022, followed shortly by his first senior start against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
βAfter making eight senior appearances for Gillingham under manager Neil Harris and earning a trial with Tottenham Hotspur, Chambers sought consistent first-team experience through various moves.
Between 2022 and 2024, he competed extensively in the National League South, notably during a successful spell with Worthing where he recorded 26 league appearances and three goals throughout their 2022β23 play-off campaign.
βIn August 2024, Folkestone Invicta signed Chambers to a permanent contract to provide versatility across their midfield.
He arrived at Sheppey United towards the end of the 2024/25 season, though that stint was unfortunately cut short by a severe double hernia injury that sidelined him for nearly a year.
Following an extensive rehabilitation process to ensure a full recovery, Chambers joined Ashford United in January 2026 to continue rebuilding his match fitness.
βSheppey United are now eager to reintegrate him into the squad. Ian Batten expressed his enthusiasm for the move, saying "Josh was previously unfortunate to miss the chance to showcase his abilities to the fans due to his injury.
"But after taking the necessary time to return to full fitness, the club looks forward to seeing him perform in the red and white of the Ites as a significant component of the new squad currently being assembled."
Josh added, "After a difficult couple of years Iβm delighted to sign for Sheppey and get back playing again, Iβm excited for the challenge aheadβ
