Match Report: Punjab United 0–3 Sheppey United

Danny Leonard marked a career milestone with his 50th goal for the club as Sheppey United delivered a clinical performance away from home, securing a decisive 3–0 victory over Punjab United. However, a fiery contest ended with post-match altercations that saw red cards handed out following the final whistle.

Sheppey were forced into adjustments with Mams Diallo (hamstring), Dylan Adjei-Hersey (hamstring), and Alfie Evans (back) all ruled out through injury.

New signing Jack Palmby handed the Ites a boost as he stepped straight into the starting line-up for his debut in midfield, while Harlain Mbayo returned to start in defence. Alfie Hilden, available again after being cup-tied at the weekend, named on a reinforced bench alongside Simon Kabamba and Joseph Chidyausiku, who both returned to the squad.

The Ites started on the front foot early on, with Lawrence combining well to send D’Jean Spencer down the flank in the 2nd minute to win a corner. Josh Wisson and Mikey Salako linked up shortly after, though Salako couldn't make firm contact from Wisson’s ball from the right flank under pressure.

Punjab looked to hit back from long range, sending a 30th-minute volley high over Harley Earle’s crossbar, before yellow cards began to mount for the hosts as Jordan Campbell was booked for pulling back a driving Spencer.

Debut-maker Palmby forced a save at the half-hour mark. In the 44th minute, Palmby’s sublime pass freed D’Jean Spencer. After his initial two efforts were blocked, Ites won a corner where Cameron Andrews played a pass to Spencer who picked shot from 25 yards out and unleashed a thunderous strike that crashed down off the underside of the crossbar and over the line to give Sheppey a 1–0 lead at half-time.

Sheppey kept up the pressure after the restart. Palmby forced another save in the 54th minute, but the main breakthrough came shortly before the hour mark.

In the 58th minute, Ben Clark was the assister, allowing Danny Leonard to turn and finish calmly with his left foot. The goal marked a major milestone—Danny Leonard’s 50th career goal for Sheppey United.

Tempers began to flare as the match grew physical. Punjab’s Roman Campbell was shown a yellow card in the 70th minute after an incident involving Harlain Mbayo.

In the 83rd minute, Clark dispossessed Punjab in midfield and fed Danny Leonard, who capped off a superb individual performance by hitting a clinical right-footed strike into the net for his second of the match and Sheppey's third.

Shortly after the third goal, a clash between Joseph Chidyausiku and Punjab’s Wayne Bushell in the 90th minute resulted in bookings for both players, which was the 5th yellow card for the hosts.

The hostility boiled over after the final whistle. Joseph Chidyausiku and Punjab's Kayden Lewin-Thomas both received second yellow cards—resulting in red cards—for their roles in the altercation, while a member of the Punjab coaching staff was also shown a red card by the referee.

Despite the fiery end, Sheppey United headed home with all three points and a clean sheet.
