Managerial options were tested coming into the tie, with Mams Diallo unavailable despite returning to light training following a hamstring tear, and fellow fullback Mo Dabo still sidelined with a hip flexor issue. Josh Wisson partnered Harlain Mbayo in central defence, forcing Dylan Adjei-Hersey to step in as a makeshift left-back. Beyond Wisson, Ben Clark, D'Jean Spencer, and captain Danny Leonard, the remaining seven members of the starting XI were handed their full debuts.

Sheppey United hit the ground running immediately after kick-off. Just a minute in, Harlain Mbayo lifted a magnificent long ball over the Kennington defence to find Danny Leonard, though the captain’s lobbed effort cleared the crossbar. The "Ites" kept up the early pressure, winning a pair of corners in the 6th minute that resulted in Harry Lawrence heading wide.
At the other end, new goalkeeper Harley Earle was called into action early, smothering a dangerous Kennington attack in the 11th minute before making a crucial save at his near post on the half-hour mark. Sheppey's defensive pairing of Wisson and Mbayo remained busy, with Wisson twice producing decisive blocks in the first half—first dealing with a short corner routine before denying a clear Kennington shooting opportunity in the 41st minute. D'Jean Spencer looked the main outlet for the visitors, forcing a save from 25 yards out as the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

Sheppey introduced Shaquille Gordon for Joshua Chambers at the interval, and the tactical shift paid immediate dividends. In the 51st minute, Lawrence whipped over a cross and picked out D’Jean Spencer, who applied the finish to give the Ites a 1-0 lead.
The advantage was short-lived, however. Just two minutes after Gordon won a corner that was ultimately cut short by an offensive foul call, Ben Clark conceded a free-kick deep in the Sheppey half. Kennington whipped a dangerous delivery into the box, with Sam Brown converting the opportunity in the 52nd minute to restore parity at 1-1.
Tempers began to flare as the second half developed, with George Batten booked for dissent shortly before a Kennington player saw yellow for a late challenge on Clark. Sheppey pressed hard to regain the lead, with Clark firing wide from 25 yards in the 59th minute following a corner.
Cameron Andrews replaced Clark in the 71st minute to provide fresh legs in midfield, and Sheppey ramped up the pressure. Adjei-Hersey won a corner on the left, Spencer saw a well-worked effort saved by the Kennington keeper, and Andrews drove an effort just wide of the post in the 80th minute.
Despite late tactical switches—including Lawrence driving forward to head over from a corner and Spencer cutting inside to drag a shot wide—Sheppey could not break down a resolute home defence. A late booking for Lawrence in the 90th minute capped off a physical second half, leaving both sides to settle for a draw and a midweek replay.
