Ites Show Real Grit in Five-Goal Thriller at Faversham

Sheppey United fell to a narrow 3–2 defeat against Faversham Town in a dramatic afternoon of football. Despite the loss, it was a brave, high-energy performance from the Ites, who fought for every ball, posed a constant threat on the break, and battled through an injury list.
With Harley Earle sidelined following an injury sustained on Saturday (with no return timeline set yet), U23 and Sheppey Sports regular Jobie Farr stepped up to make his full debut between the sticks. The young stand-in keeper put in an outstanding performance, making vital saves under heavy pressure in the opening half.
Sheppey threatened early when Dylan Adjei-Hersey fired over from distance in the second minute. Young keeper Farr was called into action immediately, palming away an early attempt and comfortably claiming a Faversham corner.
However, Faversham applied heavy set-piece pressure throughout the opening 20 minutes. Sheppey’s defensive effort took a blow when Wisson picked up a groin injury, temporarily forcing the Ites down to 10 men while he received treatment. Faversham capitalised in the 21st minute: after a free-kick given away by Spencer, the home side swung a ball into the box, and KaneHaysman turned it home to make it 1–0.
Sheppey responded brilliantly. In the 27th minute, D’Jean Spencer redeemed himself with a pinpoint cross, allowing Mikey Salako to stab home the equaliser!
The Ites kept up the momentum—Ben Clark created a fantastic opening for Alfie Evans, whose effort was denied by a brilliant save from Faversham stopper Hadler. But just as Sheppey looked to be taking control, Faversham caught the Ites on the break in the 34th minute, with Josh Strouts restoring the home side's lead.
Sheppey pushed hard before the break—Clark had a penalty shout turned down, and Evans saw a deflected shot loop just over the bar—but the Ites went into the tunnel trailing 2–1.
The second half started under heavy Faversham pressure. In the 52nd minute, after Farr made a strong initial save from a second-phase corner, Ibrahim Olutade reacted quickest to force home the follow-up, extending Faversham's lead to 3–1.
Injuries continued to disrupt Sheppey’s rhythm. Josh Wisson was forced off in the 58th minute alongside Mams Diallo, bringing Simon Kabamba into the action. Shortly after, Alfie Evans 63rd minute was replaced by Josh Chambers due to injury too.
Farr kept Sheppey in the contest with a sensational fingertip save at his near post in the 73rd minute, and his quality stop proved pivotal just two minutes later. In the 75th minute, Cole carried the ball smartly out of defence and found Josh Chambers, who was brought down on the edge of the area. Chambers picked himself up and smashed the resulting free-kick straight into the back of the net to bring the score to 3–2!
Sheppey went all-out attack for the final ten minutes, bringing on Kaelem Sobhee-Turner for Clark in the 90th minute. Leonard tested Hadler late on with a left-footed strike, but the home keeper managed to spill and recover, holding off Sheppey's fierce late surge until the final whistle.
