Sheppey United delivered an extraordinary display of grit, heart, and penalty-shootout drama to advance to the next round of the FA Trophy, overcoming a nightmare injury, traffic chaos, and a brave host side to defeat Beaconsfield Town.

With Monday's away trip to Faversham firmly in mind, the Ites made squad adjustments to rest key bodies. Sheppey were also forced to field a reshuffled side without the unavailable Harlain Mbayo and Mo Dabo.
The opening exchanges were tightly contested. Sheppey threatened early when Josh Wisson released Jack O'Neill down the left in the 6th minute, followed by a half-chance for Simon Kabamba that whistled wide. At the other end, Harley Earle was called into action at the 18-minute mark, closing down the angle smartly to force a Beaconsfield corner.
Sheppey nearly broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Ben Clark picked out Mikey Salako, whose clever touch and flicked attempt clipped the crossbar.
However, the half was overshadowed by a devastating blow in the 29th minute. While punching away a Beaconsfield corner in a crowded box, goalkeeper Harley Earle took a heavy blow to his side. After lengthy treatment, a brave Earle attempted to carry on, but the painful reality hit at half-time—unable to move and in unbearable agony, Earle was forced off.
Outfield player Ethan Cole was forced to put on the gloves for the second half, with Mams Diallo coming on at full-back.
Cole was thrown straight into the action, confidently gathering a pair of early low crosses. However, Beaconsfield took advantage of the disruption in the 54th minute when Freddie Ford found the net to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.
Sheppey managers Ian & George Batten turned to his bench, bringing on D'Jean Spencer, Danny Leonard, and Cam Andrews. Despite trailing, the Ites took absolute control of the match, pouring forward in search of an equaliser.
Wisson had a header goalward cleared off the line in the 76th minute, while Dylan Adjei-Hersey and Ben Clark kept the Beaconsfield defence under siege with wave after wave of crosses. At the back, interim goalkeeper Cole proved his heroics in the 80th minute, diving bravely at the feet of an advancing striker to keep Sheppey within touching distance.
Sheppey’s relentless pressure finally paid off in the 88th minute. A lofted cross from Mams Diallo was nodded down by Danny Leonard, who cut inside onto his left foot and smashed it home to send the traveling Ites faithful into raptures! 1–1.
Sheppey pushed for a dramatic late winner, and almost found it two minutes into stoppage time when Mikey Salako spun and fired towards goal, only to be denied by a brilliant save from the Beaconsfield keeper.
After 95 minutes of grueling action, the referee blew the whistle—to penalties!
