An injury-depleted Sheppey United side was forced to test the absolute limits of their squad depth, entering the clash against high-flying South Park Reigate missing eight key players: Mo Dabo (hip), Harlain Mbayo (ankle), Ben Clark (illness), Joe Ganiwa (illness), Alfie Evans (back), Cameron Andrews (ankle), Danny Leonard (knee), and Mams Diallo (hamstring), who only recently returned to light training.
Josh Wisson took the captain’s armband to lead a reshuffled line-up, which was boosted by Kaelem Sobhee-Turner’s availability before his upcoming three-game suspension. To plug the gaps, the Ites drafted in Sheppey Sports trio Ryan Freeman, Jack O'Neill, and Joe Skinner into the matchday squad.
Sheppey United exploded out of the blocks, instantly putting the visiting defence under intense pressure. Just two minutes in, D' Jean Spencer whipped two dangerous balls into the box, with Williams heading over from a prime position.
The early pressure paid off in the 9th minute. A precise pass from Lawrence set up Dylan Adjei-Hersey, who connected with a brilliant first-time volley to send the home support into raptures and put the Ites 1–0 ahead.
On 12 minutes, Spencer cut inside from 25 yards and rattled a powerful strike off the outside of the post. At the opposite end, Harry Lawrence was called into defensive action, making a crucial block to concede a South Park corner that narrowly eluded their attackers at the back post. With 18 on the clock, Spencer picked up a booking before 3 minutes later when a swift move involving Williams and Salako set up Joe Skinner, who dragged his effort wide.
Then on 26 minutes, Spencer produced another dazzling run, cutting inside to unleash a low 25-yard driver saved well at the near post.
As the half wore on, South Park Reigate began to settle. Harley Earle was forced into action on 30 minutes to hold a cross-shot, while Sheppey continued to threaten from set-pieces through Lawrence's aerial power. Earle made a crucial, high-quality save on 39 minutes, but the visitors struck back moments later. In the 41st minute, Finlay Johnson capitalised to draw South Park Reigate level at 1–1 with a neat finish.
The Ites were dealt another setback during the interval, as Joe Skinner was forced off with a thigh injury and replaced by Ryan Freeman. Freeman was quickly involved in the action, earning a foul in the 55th minute that saw South Park's Daniel Moody booked.
Sheppey continued to push for the lead, Kabamba and Salako linked up cleverly to set up Hilden, whose strike was well saved. However, the defining moment arrived in the 64th minute when South Park introduced Alex Body off the bench in place of Bradley Wilson. Just seconds after stepping onto the pitch, Body made an immediate impact, netting in the 65th minute to turn the game on its head and give South Park a 2–1 lead.
Sheppey reacted by introducing Kaelem Sobhee-Turner for Michael Salako to add fresh legs in attack.
The home side threw everything forward in search of an equaliser - on 74 minutes, man of the match Alfie Hilden struck a goal-bound effort destined for the top corner, but the South Park keeper pulled off an extraordinary save. 4 minutes later, a dangerously floated Ites corner scrambled right through the box; skipper Josh Wisson vehemently appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved play on.
With 10 minutes to go Shaquille Gordon was introduced for Jack Palmby in a final roll of the tactical dice. In deep stoppage time (93’), Sheppey earned a late corner. Goalkeeper Harley Earle sprinted up the pitch to join the attack in a desperate bid to rescue a point, but the delivery flashed wide, sealing a hard-fought 2–1 victory for South Park Reigate.
