Match Report: Sheppey United 1-1 Broadbridge Heath

Sheppey United were forced to settle for a point at home against Broadbridge Heath, as a late first-half milestone goal from Danny Leonard was cancelled out by a second-half equaliser from Perri Yakubu.

D'Jean Spencer remained sidelined with a hamstring issue picked up at Sevenoaks, while Shaq Gordon sat out due to suspension. Additionally, Alfie Evans and Mams Diallo continued their spells on the sidelines with no confirmed return dates.

The hosts started on the front foot. With just two minutes on the clock, a dangerous ball into the Broadbridge Heath box allowed Dylan Adjei-Hersey a spin and a stab at goal, though the Ites could not quite capitalise. As the half progressed, Sheppey continued to probe: Josh Wisson headed over from a 12th-minute corner, and Adjei-Hersey saw a deflected shot cleared after a short corner routine in the 42nd.

Broadbridge Heath posed their own threats, notably hitting the crossbar in the 38th minute—potentially tipped onto the woodwork by goalkeeper Earle—before stabbing an opportunity over from the resulting corner. Right before the break, Andrews nearly caught the opposition goalkeeper off guard with a audacious 50-yard attempt that bounced agonizingly past the wrong side of the post.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 45th minute, and it was written in the stars. On his landmark 200th appearance for Sheppey United, fan favorite Danny Leonard marked the occasion by heading home his 52nd goal for the club. The score came after brilliant work down the left wing by Dylan Adjei-Hersey, who carved out a great crossing position before delivering the ball for Leonard to nod in.

The Ites went into the half-time interval holding a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Sheppey picked up where they left off early in the second period. Just five minutes after the restart, Leonard forced a corner, from which Dabo came close with a header before the visitors managed to clear.

The momentum turned on the hour mark. In the 59th minute, Broadbridge Heath found their equaliser through Perri Yakubu. A dipping ball was sent into the Sheppey area right underneath the crossbar; goalkeeper Earle attempted to palm it clear, but the visitors had two unmarked players waiting close by to prod the loose ball over the goalline, making it 1-1.

Sheppey instantly looked to respond. In the 61st minute, Oghosa Williams had an effort dramatically cleared off the line, and moments later, Williams headed another Leonard cross wide.

As the half wore on, manager changes were introduced to swing the momentum back: Alfie Hilden replaced Jack Palmby in the 68th minute, Mikey Salako came on for Ben Clark (75'), Kabamba replaced Lawrence (78'), and Sobhee-Turner took over from Leonard in the 84th minute. Broadbridge then had a goal disallowed for an offside.

Despite late pressure by both teams—including a flurry of fouls won by the relentless Adjei-Hersey in the dying minutes and a late free-kick put into the box in the 86th—Sheppey could not find a winner, leaving both sides to share the spoils.
