James Taylor has made a sensational return to the Ites – and will wear the legendary no.6 shirt worn previously by Richie Hamill.

Taylor started his football upbringing with the Bristol City Academy and U18s before Premiership side Crystal Palace liked what they see in the energic midfielder and brought Taylor over to the capital.

After just over two seasons with the Eagles, Taylor’s loan move to Tonbridge Angels turned permanent before he then featured at Potters Bar for the last couple of months of the 2022/23 season.

Taylor would then move over to Erith & Belvedere where he played on 17 occasions. As a youngster, Taylor played two games for Wales U17s, scoring two goals.

After joining the Ites on the 1st December 2023, Taylor went on to make 24 appearances. During his spell here he scored 5 goals, assisted twice, played his part in 9 clean sheets and won two man of the match awards. He also had the highest win percentage of any player Ites player who played more than 20 games.

On Taylor resigning, Manager Ernie Batten said “James gives good energy in midfield, he’ll run all day. He got 5 goals last season from when he joined us halfway through – there’s no reason why he can’t double that tally.”

Assistant Manager Darren Blackburn added, “JT was part of a well balanced midfield last season and having watched him several times, he’s a player who is a great all rounder, composed on the ball, works hard and can chip in with a few goals as well.

“He’s had a look at playing higher but he called and explained that the travel wasn’t going to work for him and his first choice would be to return to Sheppey as he really enjoyed his time here and the fans.

“As we seek to rebuild that area of the pitch, it’ll be good to have another reliable consistent performer in the squad and speaking to him it’s clear he’s a great lad as well”

Those comments were also echoed by Geoff Record, “It’s great to have JT back with us for his second season. He is a young player that is looking to improve his football and has a great attitude to anything that he is asked to do.

“He is a very good all-round midfield player and and can go box to box. He is a good finisher and I believe he will score his fair share of goals. A Fit lad and always gives his best in training. Welcome back JT.”
