New Signings

Midfielder Josh Wisson is a retuning Ite!…..with terms agreed and the player ready to get started already.

Wisson, who at times filled into a centreback role at the Ites (something he’s comfortable with from his younger years) has been a popular figure wherever he’s played.

Whilst starting with Sittingbourne FC, Josh at the age of 17 played for England Schoolboys and was also made captain against Scotland. After helping his country to Centenary Shield glory, he was given an extended trial at Millwall. He eventually missed out on a deal with the Lions – and then broke his wrist on his first day training with Leyton Orient too. Once back with Sittingbourne Josh soon moved to Herne Bay before joining Ashford United where he was a fans favourite.

Following 143 appearances, 24 goals and having featured in two play-off finals whilst at Ashford, Wisson then joined Sheppey United midway through the 2022/23 season and departed a year later. To date “Wisso” has made 55 appearances for the Ites, with a return of 9 goals and 7 assists.

Manager Ernie Batten said, “Wisso made contact in the summer about wanting to comeback – I know what he can bring to us and he also brings a voice on the pitch.

“One of his core strengths is his heading ability, you rarely see him lose aerial battles and that’s important to have when playing some of the teams who use their aerial strength.

“I’ve made it no secret to Wisso that he has to be fit and maintain that for the new season, and knowing how much he wants to be back here I’m sure he’ll keep his side of the bargain.”

Adding to that, Assistant Manager Darren Blackburn said, “I had a good chat with Wisso and it was clear to me that he was very keen to come back, he’s got a level head on his shoulders and is a consistent player at this level, he’s reliable and has some great attributes that are needed at this level and that the squad might be missing with the recent exits.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to come back with a fresh mind set after perhaps realising what he had here and make himself a key part of the team again.

“He’s had a few clubs contact him and higher offers but he recognises now the positives here and that’s why he wants to come back. He’s a great lad and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Wisso himself was delighted to return, “The opportunity to come back to Sheppey was something I really wanted after the end of last season. To play in a fantastic ground again and to be back with the fans who were so good to me last time I was here.

“I’m looking forward to coming back nice and fit and playing with some of the boys who were part of the fantastic fa cup run last year. More importantly I’m eager to have a competitive and successful season this year.

“It’s a club that feels like a perfect fit for me and I’m buzzing to get started again. Up the ites ❤”

Wisso will wear shirt 20 next season.
