The Ites travelled to table topping Ramsgate with only a 15 man squad with illness and injury meaning several players couldn’t be considered. Reverting back to a three man midfield saw an Ites debut for Zach Dainkeh, who’s signing was only approved that morning, whilst Connor Wilkins made a welcome return to the back line.
The game was only two minutes old when Ramsgate goalkeeper Tom Hadler was diving to his left to deny Jacob Lambert from 25 yards out. On five minutes, the hosts (who had a 100% league win success at home) had a shot deflected out for a corner, before on 14 minutes Ites’ Aiden Prall was punching out as effort from Paxman.
Aiden Prall was at his best again on 16 minutes, quickly reacting at his near post to deny the league top goalscorer Joe Taylort. The Ites consistent pressing and holding of position saw them win the ball on the 22nd minute mark and create a flowing move which ended with Jacob Lambert again denied by Hadler from just outside the box. The Ites attacked again shortly afterwards, with a left flank cross finding Javaun Splatt but he shot wide of the mark.
Half-time: Ramsgate 0 Sheppey United 0
The first opportunity of the second half fell to Splatt, with his attempt off target. Another great bit of play by Frankie Morgan on the left had him hit a dangerous cross just beyond the diving-in Bradshaw – only for the offside flag to go up too. A promising debut for Dainkeh ended on 75 minutes with the midfielder suffering from a groin issue and replaced for James Bessey Saldanha.
On 83 minutes Ramsgate sub Benny Bioletti was denied by Prall and into injury time Hadler once again frustrated Lambert with a save to deny the Ites all three points.
