THANK YOU ROSS WILES

Club News

After a season of success, overseeing the Sheppey United U18 and U23s both wining their leagues this season, Manager Ross Wiles has stepped down.

But……no to worry, Ross will be very much part of the Sheppey United framework, overseeing and inputting into our youth football in the role of ‘Head of Youth Development’.

Ross has been involved with Sheppey United Youth since the start – where his then U12s team have grown to be 18, and year on year producing competitive footballers. Players such as Bailey Catherick, keeper Alfie Irvine have followed him throughout this journey – with Bailey now part of the men’s 1st team squad.

Not to be forgotten, Ross also stepped-up to help the first team during the 22/23 season assisting with coaching duties, but also bonding with the players and acting as a mentor in many ways.

Speaking of his role change Ross said, “I love it here at Sheppey United, but I have family commitments I need to spend time on, and family has to come first. That said, I’ll still be part of the furniture and with youth football being a passion of mine I’m looking forward to helping with our strategy and producing future talents for the first team.

“What’s been more rewarding for me is having 10 of my players, which some have been with me since the age of 8 get to be involved with the first team. When I joined this youth section 8 years ago we was a long way from that happening – so I think we can all be proud of giving the lads of this island something to work hard for and be part of.”

Manager Jack Midson added, ”Ross has been a big part of Sheppey United for many years. So many youngsters have developed under him and are/will go on to have a good football career.

“Ross came in and helped with the first team over the past year and was a popular figurehead with the players.

“The key thing is he’s still going to be around, and will be a key component in developing our youth and helping with that transition U23s to 1st team football.“

Thank you for all the efforts Ross, and the silverware that you brought to the club and no doubt we’ll see you watching Sheppey games in the very near future.
