For decades women’s football has been in the shadows of a male dominated sport. However in recent years football fever for women has hit record new highs with the success of the Lionesses as well as a better structured ladies professional football set-ups.

With the new era of ‘modern day women’s football’ rising, Sheppey United are set to embrace our beautiful game by showing their support.

Sheppey United are delighted to announce the addition of a senior ladies team for the 2023/24 season.

With the new affiliation the Ladies will gain access to the Sheppey United facilities, UEFA B qualified coaching and support system by making Holm Park their new home ground.

Naturally, we are all excited to see what the future holds and feel the move will have a positive impact for the club and community. By joining with such a well-established club we have high expectations of growth not only for our club, but also for the female game as a whole.

Shelley Holtam, chief executive said: ” I am so excited and thrilled to introduce to you all, Sheppey United FC Ladies! I know that it has been too long since our great club had a ladies team here at Holm Park and I know we will accomplish great things and with pure dedication from the players and support from you our fans we can accomplish our visions by creating a successful pathway from girls youth teams through to ladies over the coming years.

“This news is a fantastic development for female football on the Isle of Sheppey and the wider community, which will further create opportunities for women and girls to become involved with the football club.

“The growth of women’s football is phenomenal and Sheppey United Football Club are delighted to play a small but significant part in helping that begin again here at Holm Park on our state of the art surface.

“May I take this opportunity to welcome onboard, Waine, Gary and Matt who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in Ladies football and I personally look forward to the start of the season!”
