U14s players Sam Odiase and Alfie Humphrey have both been offered 18 month contracts with Gillingham FC after being watched in December by a Gills scout.
Alfie joined SUFC for what was then the U13s season coming from Gravesham Borough and straight in as captain. He’d previously played with SUFC U14s manager Newman Luke as his Swale schools captain for several years. Last season Alfie was a key member of Newman’s SUFC team that went on to win the KYL South.
Alongside winning the KYL South division, Alfie went on to captain the side through several summer tournament wins and he also represented Kent in the Aces Nationals 2021.
Alfie started the U14 season even better. Leading the squad to the top of the table up to January 2022 before leaving for a trial with the Gills. Even as a centre half he found the back of the net on several occasions – even scoring a perfect hat trick!
Alfie will be a massive loss to the squad but everyone on the team and at the club wishes him all the best. The door is open at Sheppey United for his return if ever needed.
Sam Odiase only joined the U14s in August 2021 after playing against them in a friendly for Herne Bay. Sam impressed the SUFC management and squad during that game in his centre forward position and his parents were impressed with the set up at SUFC.
Sam signed days later and gelled instantly with the squad. Scoring on his debut within 20 minutes.
Sam hit the ground running and his goal tally rose. During his time with us, Sam topped the Kent Youth League goalscorer charts over the 4 divisions at u14s level with 24 goals.
With only 4 months at the SUFC, like Alfie, he got spotted at our U14 games and was offered a trial which he took and impressed the Gills coaches.
We’d like to wish both players the very best of luck for the future.
Also, well done to Newman and his coaching team on helping these players through their development.
