Orome and Freiter both Strike in Trophy win

Club News

Sheppey United breezed past Rochester United to progress through to the next round of the Kent Senior Trophy at the weekend.

Ernie Batten rolled the changes for this tie, Allan, Sains, Bennett, Wilson all not part of the squad with Freeman, Tenyue and Hamill all getting starts. There was also a debut for goalkeeper Liam Northwood between the sticks.

The Ites dominated the early stages of the game with wingers Aibangbee and Roberts in the thick of the action. A Jack Midson goal ruled out for offside was a warning to Rochester that was not taken when Roberts was hacked down in the box on the half an hour mark – Captain Jack Midson coolly converting the penalty for 1-0.

On the stroke of half-time Michael Freither doubled the lead having trapped a ball from Tenyue and beating the keeper at the 2nd attempt for his first Ites goal.

Liam Northwood’s hopes of a clean sheet on his first competitive appearance were dashed on 50 minutes when Rochester pulled a goal back. However, the Ites got their two goal cushion back 8 minutes later when the impressive Hamill crossed a free-kick onto the head of Orome to make it 3-1 – Orome’s first Ites goal.

Sub James Jeffrey almost made it 4-1 for Sheppey on 77 minutes but he was denied after Orome played him through. A fourth goal didn’t take much longer to come though, Hamill playing to Aibangbee who roofed into the net for his second goal in as many games.
