Sheppey defeated at Maidstone

Club News

Sheppey United were handed a defeat against Maidstone United on Tuesday night with their pre-season continuing to be used for rotation and testing out several new faces.

Maidstone started strongly and put a few challenging crosses into the Ites box but they were headed away well by Lex Allan. The early pressure paid off for the hosts when on 16 minutes Jake Gallagher crossed for Taylor Curran to head past Liam Northwood.

An injury to Lex Allan shortly after the goal was clearly troubling the reliable defender, and following treatment he initially carried on playing. Sheppey’s best spell in the 1st half came when they forced three consecutive corners just before the half-hour mark .

On 30 minutes, Maidstone doubled their lead when Roarie Deacon looked-up from outside the box and struck a left footed finish for 2-0. The Ites then lost Allan with the defender unable to shake off his earlier injury and he was replaced for Dan Birch. Maidstone struck again before half-time through Jack Barham to give them a comfortable lead at the interval.

Half-time – Maidstone United 3 Sheppey United 0

Sheppey rolled many changes during the 2nd half as they continued to evaluate the trialists, with a further three introduced from the bench. Joan Luque struck a 4th for the Stones on 49th minutes, and he doubled his tally on 56 minutes – hitting a free-kick into the top corner of the net.

Ibby Akanbi added a 6th goal for Maidstone whilst at the other end Michael Hagan was unlucky not to get a consolation goal for the Ites, and before that trialist #4 hit a shot wide.
