Billy Bennett Joins The Ites

Club News, New Signings

Sheppey United are pleased to announce the signing of Billy Bennett! Here’s what the former SCEFL title winner had to say:

Can you give a rundown of your playing career?

I started playing senior football at VCD before having stints with the likes of Herne Bay, Chatham, Phoenix and Greenwich Borough. More recently I signed for Sevenoaks and Beckenham Town.

Talk us though how the move to SUFC happened?

I had a few meetings with Ernie and Jono and liked the clubs vision and that they want to encourage playing football. I spoke to a few of the boys that are already involved who only had good things to say.

Have you played with anyone from the current Sheppey squad in the past?

Probably 7 or 8 of the boys which helps. Although, Benbow and I have followed each other for nearly 10 years!

Have you been to training/friendlies? If so, How have you found it?

I have been injured for a month or so and only returned Saturday. The boys look sharp from what I’ve seen so I guess that they’ve been worked hard ready for the season to start.

What is your impression of the pitch, stadium and fans?

I was fortunate enough to play on Beckenham’s pitch last year and Sevenoaks newly laid 4G for two seasons before that. However, playing 20 minutes here against Gillingham has confirmed that the pitch is probably on par, if not better than both – with the added value of the best facilities and biggest following in the league! A club that are already geared up to go up the leagues.

What are you thoughts on Sheppey competing for the title this season?

Another typically tight season with 4 or 5 stand out teams. The likes of Chatham and Beckenham will be competing with us for top spot but we have a great squad from what I’ve seen. I think that Glebe and Erith will also do well, knowing the signings that they have made.

What strengths do you have that you can bring to the team?

I like to get beyond and play in the final third.

Do you have a nickname that previous teammates called you?

It might be to soon to ask but had Ernie asked you to perform a certain role on the pitch?

To link up with the strikers and chip in with some goals!

Finally, do you have a message for the SUFC supporters?

*Up the ites!*

Thanks Billy!
