EB Finally Lands Carnegie

Club News, New Signings

After the recent announcement of Harry Carnegie joining SUFC, we caught up with Hazza ahead of pre-season,

Can you give a rundown of your playing career?

2015 and 2018 I played in this league with Phoenix Sports and Sevenoaks and on both occasions I was fortunate to win the league playing every league game for both clubs. In between that time I played with Phoenix and Thamesmead Town in the Ryman North and South. Last season I ended the season with Chatham Town having started of with Whyteleafe in the Bostik south east. I have had short spells at Cray Valley and Tunbridge Wells alike.

What was the deciding factor in you joining the Ites? Talk us though how the moved happened?

Me and Ernie had spoken for a few seasons on the bounce but I had already agreed terms with other outfits. This time round I hadn’t, and after a few phone conversations with Jono, he explained the vision for the club and it was something I had to be a part of.

What is your impression of the SUFC setup?

Everyone knows what the Sheppey pitch is like, there is not a better one at this level of football nor the one above. I’ve seen the fans in full voice in the SCEFL cup final 2017 when I was playing for Sevenoaks, it’ll be a privilege to play in front of them every week.

What are your thoughts on the forthcoming preseason games that are lined up?

Some tough pre-season fixtures in there I’m looking forward to the games against Cray Wanderers. Last season against them I played in possibly the most exciting 0-0 ever, red cards, disallowed goals them lot.

Have you played with anyone from the current Sheppey squad in the past?

I have played with Davo at Chatham last season briefly, but have played against majority of the current squad for a few seasons so we all know of each other.

What strengths do you have that you can bring to the team?

I enjoy being direct when I play so that might be exciting for the fans, I also use both feet equally well so being able to play left or right might come in handy especially when needing to adapt during games.

Do you have a nickname that previous teammates called you?

Either H or Hazza.

It might be to soon to ask but had Ernie asked you to perform a certain role on the pitch?

We are yet to meet up as a squad but I’m sure Ernie will have in mind what he would like from me. Goals and assists I hope.

What do you get up to during the summer break?

During the summer break I tend to just keep myself ticking over, I have a young family so utilise my Saturdays and spend as much time with them as I can.

Who is your sporting icon?

I like Rafael Nadal, he plays with such intensity and wins points from impossible positions.

Do you have a message for the SUFC supporters?

I have a good feeling about the season ahead, I am sure we will be in the mixer for silverware/promotion this year.

Thanks H, and I know many Ites cant wait to see you pull on the Red and White stripes!
