Davo Excited by Sheppey Vision

Club News, New Signings

After the recent announcement of Ben Davisson joining the Ites, we caught up with him for his first interview.

Can you give a rundown of your playing career?

I was a scholar and then pro at Charlton Athletic for four years before beginning my  time in non-league, on the way to signing for Sheppey I’ve played for the likes of welling united, Tonbridge angels, Maidstone United and Ashford United.

What was the deciding factor in you joining the Ites? Talk us though how the moved happened?

Jono Richardson contacted me and I was immediately interested. I’ve always thought Sheppey was a good club with a great set up. I went to meet the Gaffa at the ground and he talked me through his vision for this season and to be honest as soon as he had done that I was just excited to get started.

What was your impression of the facilities and fans?

The pitch is one of the best I’ve ever played on and was a huge factor in attracting me to the club. Whenever I’ve played at Sheppey there’s been a good crowd and I hope we attract even more to The Havill Stadium this season.

What are your thoughts on the forthcoming pre-season games that are lined up?

There are some good tests from the Ryman south and premier and an exciting fixture against Gillingham which I’m particularly looking forward. It would be great to get a good crowd for that game and to carry that buzz into the first week of the season.

Have you played with anyone from the current Sheppey squad in the past?

I played in the middle of the park with Micky Phillips both at Maidstone and Ashford. He’s a mate and a great player with bags of experience. I’ve also shared the Ashford shirt with two top lads in David Botterill and Aaron Lee -Wharton.

What strengths do you have that you can bring to the team?

I’m good on the ball and can pick out a forward pass. I also pride myself on my fitness and ability to get around the pitch.

Do you have a nickname that previous teammates called you?

Davo

It might be too soon to ask but had Ernie asked you to perform a certain role on the pitch?

We spoke about playing central midfield, I can sit in defensively or push forward. I’m happy to do whatever suits the style of the team.

Do you have a message for the SUFC supporters?

I can’t wait to put on the Sheppey shirt! Let’s make our home ground a fortress this season!

Thanks Davo!
