Michael Phillips joins the Ites

Club News, New Signings

SUFC are excited to announce Mickey Phillips has agreed terms with the Ites!

Here’s what the experienced ex Maidstone United midfielder and captain has to say:

Talk us though how the move happened?

I came down to a game last season and joined in with the team before the game. I had a chat with Ernie and Jono and was really impressed with the club. I think Sheppey is a sleeping giant which has the foundations to reach the National league one day. I played in some really tough games against Sheppey in my time with Ashford United. I always remembered the great support and I really enjoyed playing on that pitch! When I spoke to Jono about signing I jumped at the chance.

What are your thoughts on the forthcoming preseason games that are lined up?

I’m really looking forward to all the pre-season games especially the one against Gills. Pre-season is mainly about getting match fit and bonding with the team.

Have you played with anyone from the current Sheppey squad in the past?

I played with Jono at Hastings many years ago. I haven’t met all my teammates yet so I’m not sure who else I might of played alongside.

Do you have a nickname that previous teammates called you?

I was known as Iniesta to the Maidstone fans, but Micky to most others.

What are your aspirations for this season?

I’m confident we will be challenging for promotion this season.

Do you have a message for the SUFC supporters?

I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the Sheppey faithful, UP THE ITES!

Thanks Mickey!
