Club Statement – Obscene Chanting

It is with regret the football club has taken the unprecedented step of imposing a life time ban on a so called supporter. Following various complaints yesterday of Homophobic and Racist chanting the club have taken this step to ensure our reputation as a family friendly club.

We pride ourselves on being an activity your entire family can enjoy and yesterdays scenes will not be tolerated here at Holm Park.

Sheppey United Youth Expansion

Sheppey United Youth are pleased to announce that we are looking to expand our youth section by bringing in younger age groups for the start of the 2019/20 season.

At this time we have 3 teams that compete in Kent Youth League at U14, U15 and U18 level and all are very good and competitive sides playing against the likes of Maidstone United, Dover Athletic, Faversham Town, Sittingbourne FC, Dartford FC and Ebbsfleet United just to name a few. The U14s are top of their league and made the semi-finals of last year’s Kent County Cup and the U15s have a number of players currently representing the Swale district team. The Under 18s have recently had two players sign First Team forms at the age of just 16 and one of those has also been selected to represent the Kent Schools teams this season.

Our aim for now recruiting younger teams in order to be able to create teams with coaches that can train and develop together for a longer period of time in preparation to play at the high standard that the Kent Youth League has to offer.

The club has recently been awarded its Chartered Status again which ensures that we are a safe club to join as all our coaches have coaching qualifications which include a UEFA B Licence, all coaches have criminal record checks, Safeguarding children and 1st aid qualifications.

In order to fully understand what we need to have in place we are seeking expressions of interest from any teams, players and coaches that would be interested in joining the Sheppey United family next season.

To express your interest or if you wish to ask any questions please contact:

Sonny Gladdish Joins The Ites

Sonny Gladdish has joined the Sheppey United management team as First Team Coach working along side Ben Franks.

Sonny has this to say:

“I’m really excited to be linking up with Ernie at Sheppey United. I’ve known Ernie and Ian since our Milton Athletic days. I’m really looking forward to helping push the club in the right direction.”

Sonny’s career to date:

“My playing background includes stints in both the Charlton Athletic Academy and Millwall’s Academy. Coaching wise I had 4 successful years with Maidstone Untied in their youth set up, with several players signing for pro clubs and going on to represent the Maidstone first team. I then joined East Grinstead Town in the Ryman South for almost 2 seasons. I then linked up with Darren Hare and Steve Watt at Hastings for 1 season in which we finished in the play offs eventually losing to Dorking on penalties in the semi final! Steve Watt was then appointed Margate Manager and asked me to become a member of his management team for last season.”

…Welcome to the club Sonny!

Ask Ernie

Supporters and fans of SUFC are invited to an evening with Ernie on Wed 3rd Oct.

There has been a lot happening at the club both on and off the pitch and with that comes speculation or people making their own minds up. It was felt that by doing an open evening where fans can ask Ernie any questions that they want and get the answers directly from Ernie himself or the club committee. We hope this will be helpful and informative to what actually happens behind the scenes on a daily basis and what goes in to making the club run.

Doors to the Gallery Bar open at 7pm with the night starting at approx. 7.45pm

Nick Davis Leaves Sheppey Assistant Manager Role

Nick Davis has resigned from his role as Assistant Manager of Sheppey United, amidst speculation of him accepting a managers role at another club.

Davis, who joined the Ites as Ernie Batten’s number two this summer, had this to say following his departure after Saturdays FA Vase game :

“I was not on the lookout for another management opportunity, however another great club has made contact and its turned my head. I am unsure whether I shall take the job at present but think it’s only fair to Ernie and the football club that I step away whilst I decide what the next step is. I think the buzz of living and dying by your own decisions as manager I have really missed. I’m certainly leaving one of the biggest Step 5 football clubs in Kent.”

“I have been around non-league football for 20 years and the support and club are something I have only experienced a couple of times before despite being involved with lots of higher league football clubs. I wish Ernie and his team the best and know the quality of the squad will shine through over the season.”

Good luck for the future Nick from all of us here at Sheppey United FC (Limited).
