Two More Exciting Additions Ahead Of League Campaign

Sheppey United are excited to welcome midfielders Danny Leonard (Herne Bay) and Conner Wilkins (Margate)!

Today we caught up with Danny, and next week we will chat to Conner!

Saturday cant come soon enough!! Here’s the Danny interview:

Can you give a rundown of your playing career?

I was at Gillingham Fc from the age of 11 until I was 19, during which I had a loan spell at East Grinstead Fc. More recently I have played for Sittingbourne and Hastings Fc. I have been at Herne Bay for the past two seasons.

We note you have been with Herne Bay in pre-season…Talk us though how the move to SUFC happened?

I have always got on with Jono, I played with him at Sittingbourne and Herne Bay. We’ve kept in contact over past few years and more recently he was keen for me to come down to the club. It was a tough decision but due to work commitments, training nights etc.. I felt it was best for me move on. The Fans were great there and would like to thank them for the support they showed me during my time there!

What is your impression of the pitch, stadium and fans?

The pitch alone is enough to get any player excited about joining the club. Having played on a few professional grounds during my time at Gillingham, this pitch tops them all! I played in a friendly last year against Sheppey and was very impressed with the amount of support the club has!

What are your thoughts on Sheppey competing this season?

Obviously Chatham Town will be strong this season but I see no reason why this group of players will not be challenging them the whole way through the season.

Have you played with anyone from the current Sheppey squad in the past?

I have played with a few of the boys, which was another factor in myself joining the club. I played with Steven Ita, Hicham at Sittingbourne. Also Dan Birch when he was at Herne Bay last season.

What strengths do you have that you can bring to the team?

I feel I can bring a lot of energy into the team, I like to drive forwards with the ball and make things happen.

Do you have a nickname that previous teammates called you?

“DL” or “Leonard”

It might be too soon to ask but had Ernie asked you to perform a certain role on the pitch?

Speaking to Ernie he is keen for me to support the front men and help make things happen going forward.

Have you been to training? If so, how have you found it?

I was at training during week and was welcomed by everyone. The level of professionalism was very high and something I’m looking forward to working in.

Do you have a message for the SUFC supporters?

The message I would have for the supporters is that I am thoroughly looking forward to being part of this team which I think is on an upward journey. On the pitch 110% is a must from myself and I cannot wait to get started!!

Thanks DL.
